Gauntlet meets Pokemon! |
You start off with one Ratatta who tries to enter the Battle Royale, a showdown of about 50 Pokemon in one arena. Once you lose (You WILL lose), you learn about the different places and how to obtain much more stronger Pokemon. You go to a stage, defeat Pokemon that ambush you, collect the money they drop, and collect any Pokemon that get dazed into a state where you can get them. Every stage ends with a boss (an over-sized regular Pokemon) that you have to defeat. Beat about 4 of 6 stages, obtain a Pokemon of a certain power rating (Power ratings instead of levels) and you can enter the Battle Royale! Once you beat it, you rank up and go to the higher rank, and the cycle starts again.
You play with the Pokemon the same way you would in the normal games. All Pokemon have their elements, so you would use that to your advantage. Also, if your Pokemon get weak in battle, you can switch them out with another (but not in Battle Royale). You still can die, but remember that you only have 3 lives.
There are different modes of the game that you unlock. Normal mode features the original 151, Advanced mode features Pokemon of all leagues, and EX mode features the strongest, rarest Pokemon in the whole series, so there is quite some ways to go until you beat the whole game. To aid yourself in that challenge, you can teach Pokemon you have new abilities with the money you get. You can also play with up to 3 other people (4 players) and take on the stages and Battle Royales. A pretty cool feature of this is that you can use 3 controller types: Wiimote, Classic Controller, or GC controller. However, remember that you share the same 3 lives.
Overall, this game is really great. It's a good beat 'em up with tons and tons of Pokemon to play as for only 1500 points, so I do suggest to buy it. If you still aren't sure if you want to play the game, download the demo and try it out!
Oh, one more thing! The final boss music in this game is amazing. That's all I'm saying.
This is a WiiWare Game that is actually GREAT!
